When compared to some of the metropolitan areas on the east coast, Phoenix Arizona is a relatively young city; some might even call it a baby city. The city is young enough that the it hasn't yet experienced the decades or centuries of neglect that other cities like New York, Boston and Philadelphia have had to endure.

But just because Phoenix doesn't have years of urban blight that these other parts of the country have doesn't mean that Phoenix is willing to sit back on its laurels; Phoenix has earned the label of one of the most livable cities in the nation, and city officials are determined to retain the title.

Despite being a fairly young city, Phoenix is determined to see their city stay ranked as one of the most livable parts of the United States. That's why they've taken an aggressive approach to encourage neighborhood renewal. One example is the Roosevelt neighborhood. This neighborhood was once primarily a working class section of town. During the 1980s, Roosevelt began a slow, but steady decline.

But in Phoenix, where real estate demand for is higher than the inventory of homes for sale, neighborhood homes are too valuable to fall apart. Phoenix has taken a proactive approach to neighborhood renewal, starting with deeming Roosevelt as a neighborhood under the Neighborhood Initiative Act. Since then, Roosevelt has blossomed and thrived.

Roosevelt features more than 200 restored homes, historical buildings and apartment complexes. This neighborhood is known for its art galleries, boutiques, and tree lined streets. In fact, Roosevelt is featured prominently in Phoenix's Friday night art walk, a monthly tour of the art galleries and museums throughout the city.

The city of Phoenix worked diligently to acquire bond and grant money for the Roosevelt renovations. They've replaced a once shop-worn district with an innovative, colorful and vibrant district. This area attracts new home buyers and businesses.

Once again, Phoenix has shown that a little ingenuity and hard work can make even the most down-trodden neighborhood gleam like a diamond in the desert. For home buyers that are looking for a community with a sense of tradition, quality construction and old-world charm, Roosevelt may be the perfect neighborhood.

This charming neighborhood is just one of the many communities that welcome new residents. Each community features its own unique personality and pulse, each combines to truly make Phoenix one of the most livable cities in the country.
